Ad Verstijnen (1946)

Ad Verstijnen (1946)

Painter, Graphic artist, Sculptor

Ad VERSTIJNEN (Arnhem 1946)

Painter, graphic artist, sculptor

Education:

Ad Verstijnen was educated at the Academy for Visual Education, training for drawing and crafts teacher in Tilburg.

He lives and works in Boxtel.

Ad Verstijnen has developed his own methods and techniques over the years. Ad Verstijnen experimented with all kinds of different materials, such as corrugated cardboard, jute, plastic and structural materials. Partly due to the use of these materials, very characteristic works were created. Ad Verstijnen's most recent paintings are characterized by a powerful handwriting and strongly expressive colours. The childhood drawings of his children were often a source of inspiration. The optimism in the drawings appealed to him and he began to see and appreciate this more and more.

Ad Verstijnen's style clearly shows similarities with the bright colors and spontaneous expression of the international Cobra group. What Ad Verstijnen tries to portray is the immediate environment of the child: child with cat, bicycle, bird and ball. All these images symbolize freedom and have nothing to do with the norms and rules of adult society. In this way the artist consciously detaches himself from the norms taught at the academy.
