The Asplund company was founded in 1990 by the brothers Christian and Thomas Asplund and today it is one of the most important galleries in the field of Swedish design. Following the revival of Scandinavian design in the 1980s, the company wanted to design new experimental products. The focus was on small, uniformed productions rather than mass production where the aesthetic value often declines. Designers associated with the company included Thomas Eriksson, Thomas Sandell, Jonas Bohlin and Matz Borgström. During the design process, the role of the product is examined and how that role can best be fulfilled within the domestic environment.
