Berend STRIK (Nijmegen 1960)
Strik grew up in Nijmegen. He studied from 1985 to 1988 at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. From 1998 to 2000 he attended the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York. In 2001 he was "artist in residence" in The Fifth Season, Den Dolder.
Strik has won several (inter)national prizes, including the Prix de Rome (second prize, sculpture) in 1987, the Charlotte Köhler award in 1990 and the Dorothea von Stetten Kunstpreis in 1992.
Strik exhibits both solo and in group exhibitions. In 1994 Strik had a solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam called Sadness, Sluices, Mermaids, Delay. In 2010/2011 Museum Het Valkhof (Nijmegen) presented a retrospective of his oeuvre entitled May I Show You My Pictures?[2] A publication of the same name has been published.
