Cris Agterberg was an artist and designer. He was involved in drawing, painting and sculpture, batik, crafts and designing furniture and jewelry. His designs were executed in his own studio, but also at manufacturers such as Westraven, Zenith, Zaalberg, South Holland and glass factory Leerdam. Agterberg was educated in Germany at the applied arts schools in Elberfeld and Quellinus in Amsterdam. After working in construction and architecture, he developed into a versatile creative. He made his name known with decorative and utensils made of ceramics, metal, glass and wood. His sculptures fit with Symbolism and Expressionism and are also linked to the style of the Amsterdam School. Agterberg also contributed to various student association festivities with designs for costumes and props. Besides working as an artist, he had a shop where he sometimes showed controversial art. Agterberg himself was also a controversial figure: in 1932 he joined the National Socialist Movement, for which he acted as a designer and art consultant.
