Dorothea LANGE (Hoboken (New Jersey) 1895 - San Francisco 1965)

American photographer who is best known for her documentary work on behalf of the Farm Security Administration about the consequences of the Great Depression.

Her mission was to document the effects of the Depression on the impoverished American countryside. A form of social photography. Her most famous photograph is titled Migrant Mother from 1936, which depicts Florence Owens Thompson with two of her children. However, Mrs. Thompson's identity remained unknown until 1978.
