Edgar FERNHOUT (Bergen 1912 - Bergen 1974)
Edgar Fernhout started his work as a painter in Amsterdam after grammar school in Alkmaar and Amsterdam and then moved several times with his mother, Charley Toorop, who was also an artist. At the beginning of his artist life he mainly painted still lifes and portraits. When Edgar Fernhout was 20 he already had his first own exhibition. In 1936 Fernhout moved with his wife to Italy, where he wanted to study Renaissance painting. After a depression during the Second World War, Edgar Fernhout played an important role in the art world in the Netherlands in 1945. During this time, his style became more and more unique. Besides portraits and still lifes, he also painted a lot of landscapes, which were largely influenced by the holidays he spent in Zeeland. In addition to the Netherlands and Italy, Fernhout has also painted in France.
