Eduard Hendrik HEIJMANS (1912 -1972) After the war he settled in Aerdenhout and married M.Heijmans-Besier. They had a daughter together, Jacinta Heijmans. Originally a cellist and wood technician, Heijmans became an antique dealer in 1948. From 1958 he started painting like mad, first figuratively and soon afterwards abstract. He later belonged to the matter painters. His contemporaries were De Haan, Wagemaker, Van Odyck and Slingervoet. Anton Heyboer, with whom he was friends, lived in the same environment. Painters such as Verpoorten, Hannes Postma and Kees Okx also belonged to this group of artists. Sufficient documents are available. For example, there are 3 scrapbooks that he kept about his art with publications, photos, letters and other information. Eduard Heijmans was also a poet. In the period 1964 to 1968, 4 collections of poems were published by De Beuk, publisher from Amsterdam. His last collection Tutti Frutti _ la Mort was published posthumously in 1973. His paintings have been purchased by various museums at home and abroad. As a material painter he had gained fame through a solo exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum under Mr. W. Sandberg (23-02 to 26-03-1962). He also had solo exhibitions at the Miami Museum of Modern Art USA, Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, Centraal Museum Utrecht and Van Bommel van Dam Venlo. In 1967 he moved to Amsterdam and in 1968 he married artist Nuray Atas. Together they had a daughter Emilia Heijmans. Eduard Heijmans died in 1972 at the age of 60 and from that time his work has been preserved and exhibited in the studio of his wife N. Heijmans-Atas in Hoorn (NH). There are 57 works by small to large from different periods.In 1975, with the help of Mrs. A. Blaauboer (former director of the cultural center Aemstelle) and Mr. drs. ERMeijer (then director of the Van Gogh Museum) held a retrospective exhibition at the Cultural Center De Aemstelle in Amstelveen and a slide project of his latest works ?African Reli_fs? in the Van Gogh Museum. Afterwards his work was exhibited in various galleries, including the Tropen Museum in Amsterdam, Galerie Liga - Nieuwe Beelden- in Leiden, Gallery Art Images in Haarlem, Artotheek Osdorp -Sixties Amsterdam-, De Rozen Galerie in Amsterdam. 3 paintings are also included in the provincial collection in Haarlem.
