Evert RABBERS (Woolde 1875 - Enschede 1967)
It is thanks to painter Evert Rabbers that Twente knows what the idyllic spots, which have since been sacrificed to progress, must have looked like in the past. He drew and painted dozens of them. The Twentse and Achterhoek countryside, the eastern city centers, the animal world, but also the people from the region were his source of inspiration. Evert Rabbers was a photographer by profession. but his real passion was painting. He was not a loner, so he formed a drawing club with his Twentse art friends, from which the Twentse Kunstkring would later arise. Rabbers himself has never been much in the foreground. He was a modest man, with a stooped build. But he has not lacked recognition, even before the Second World War. He made a name for himself in Twente, nationally and even internationally. He was a member of the St. Lucas painters' society in The Hague and also exhibited there. He sold work as far as England and was also popular in Germany.
