Frank Joseph MALINA (Brenham (Texas) 1912 - 1981)
Frank Malina is considered by some to be the father of modern rocketry. Born on October 2, 1912 in Brenham, Texas to Czech immigrants, his life was a rare combination of science and art. In 1934, Malina received a doctoral scholarship from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he soon became involved with the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory (GALCIT). In his dissertation, he explored the problems of rocket propulsion and sounding rocket flight performance. Malina was an assistant professor at Caltech from 1942 to 1946. (Source: NASA)
