Frits Vanen (1933)

Frits VANEN (Amersfoort 1933)

(Frits van Nieuwenhuizen)

Sculptor, graphic artist, painter, draftsman.

Vanèn is an exponent of the abstract-geometric movement that dominated the Netherlands in the 1960s. Using the elementary geometric shapes square, circle and triangle, to which organic shapes can be added, he creates spatial works in which openness, transparency and mobility attract attention and in which color plays an important role.

In the early 1960s, Vanèn moves to France, first to Paris and then to Auvergne. By the time he returns to Holland, he has found his own way of working. During this period he experimented with form and color in his paintings, graphics and steel plastics. In the 1970s, Vanèn developed these ideas further and discovered various ways to use his essential forms visually.

Several works have been acquired by important public collections, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and the Municipal Museum in The Hague.
