Gielijn ESCHER (Oegstgeest 1945
Escher studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and focused on designing posters, usually for cultural institutions. He made posters for the National Ballet, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Stedelijk Museum, among others. He not only designed posters, he also built up a large collection of them and ran his own adhesive company for a while. Gielijn Escher was an old-fashioned craftsman. He has always avoided the computer. Craftsmanship was crucial to him. He stood next to the screen printing press, cutting his offset films himself. He rarely used illustrations or photography on his posters. He made many textual posters. Much of his work has deep saturated colors.
