Hans BAYENS (Hastiere Lavaux, November 12, 1924 - Amsterdam, July 19, 2003) Biography: Hans Bayens was a Dutch sculptor and painter. Bayens was born in Belgium to Dutch parents. He took his final exams at the gymnasium in Amsterdam and then studied at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp (1946-1949). He was a student of Isidore Opsomer. He worked for a while in Paris and settled in Amsterdam in 1952. Bayens worked as a painter in an impressionistic style. He made portraits of Willem Drees, Wim Kan and Maurits van Loon, among others. As a sculptor, he made a number of bronze statues by Dutch authors such as Multatuli and Theo Thijssen. He is counted among the independent realists.
