Johannes Josephus (Hans) Mengelberg (Utrecht, February 3, 1885 - Utrecht, March 7, 1945) was a sculptor, stained-glass artist and designer. Mengelberg, son of Friedrich Wilhelm Mengelberg, joined his father's studio in Utrecht at the age of fifteen. There he developed into a skilled sculptor, painter and designer of church furniture, pottery, printed matter and profane utensils. Initially he focused on ecclesiastical interior art, just like his father mostly in neo-Gothic style. After a short time he was already influenced by Art Deco, Amsterdam, New Objectivity, De Stijl and Dutch Symbolism. This changed his initially exuberant style into more austere forms. In his designs, he was inspired by his fellow townsmen Gerrit Rietveld and Sybold van Ravesteyn, but also by Willem van Konijnenburg and Jan Toorop with whom he maintained close contacts. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland has produced much of his work.Source ; rkd , wikipedia , shone
