Jan Eisenloeffel specialized in making metal utensils. He has also worked as a draftsman and designer of glass and ceramics. He values artisanal production of objects. Eisenloeffel studied at the National School for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam, after which he worked at the silver studio firm Hoeker. This job gave him the opportunity to learn new techniques in Russia under Peter Carl Fabergé. At the end of the nineteenth century, Eisenloeffel returned to the Netherlands, designed prize-winning objects for the World Exhibition of 1900. After that period, he was involved in the establishment of both 't Binnenhuis and shop 'De Woning', where his designs were sold.
When the New Art emerged in the Netherlands, he did not focus on the graceful and organic Art Nouveau style, but opted for the more sober and constructive direction that made use of geometric shapes. He emphasized the making process instead of hiding it. In 1908 Eisenloeffel moved to Munich, where he became acquainted with new materials.
