Jan van Stolk (1920-1997)

Jan van Stolk (1920-1997)

Jan van STOLK (Santa Brigida 1920 – Oosterbeek 1997)

In 1934 Van Stolk moved with his parents to the Netherlands. There he was taught by his stepfather, who had his own pottery workshop with his mother. From 1952 he worked as an independent potter in Nijmegen, after which he moved to Oosterbeek. He made all kinds of ceramics with red-fired clay, which were sometimes covered with a brown glaze. For decoration he applied the sgraffitto technique, in which motifs were applied in the clay. Until 1970, in addition to being a potter, Van Stolk was also a teacher at the Free Academy in Nijmegen.
