John Raedecker (1885-1956)

Artist

John RAEDECKER

Sculptor, graphic artist, painter.

Johannes Anton Raedecker was born in 1885 in Amsterdam and died in 1956 there.

Education: In 1905 Raedecker started training at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. From 1906 to 1910 he also attended evening courses at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1910 he attended classes at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Raedecker has worked in Amsterdam, Paris, Bergen, Schoorl and Blaricum, among others.

John Raedecker was an important Dutch sculptor in the 1920s and 1930s. He is best known for his contribution to the National Monument on Dam Square. His work is considered part of the Amsterdam School. He became known in 1920 with a number of luminist paintings. After the First World War, the style in which Raedecker worked was innovative. After living in Paris for a few years, Raedecker moved to Mons, where he joined De Nieuwe Kring, a group of artists with a strong community ideal. The influence of the Bergen School can therefore be seen in Raedecker's style. Raedecker had been a member of the artists' association ?De Brug.?
