Education:
Lia van Leeuwen was educated at the Rotterdam Academy of Visual Arts from 1984 to 1987.
She lives and works in Rotterdam.
Lia van Leeuwen makes abstract works in which flowers often play a major role. The use of color – the artist often uses natural pigments she has found herself – gives the work a feeling of close connection with the earth. By scratching lines into a zinc plate, Van Leeuwen discovered that those lines form figures. She subsequently developed her own printing technique, which consists of a combination of gravure and relief printing.
Exhibitions and prizes:
In 1994 Van Leeuwen was nominated for the Dutch Graphics Prize. Her work has been exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam, Bangkok, New Delhi and New York, among others.
