Lucie (Loes) Meeles-van Groningen (Zwolle, 1 September 1884 - Bussum, 5 June 1970) was a Dutch painter. Van Groningen was a member of the patrician family Van Groningen and a daughter of Steven van Groningen (1851-1926) and Johanna Margaretha van Koningsveld (1858-1912). She came from an artistic background, her father was a concert pianist and music school director, her grandfather Jacobus van Koningsveld was initially a painter, later a photographer. He was succeeded by his wife Lucie Blachet, after whom Van Groningen was named. Van Groningen received her training at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1908-1909), as a student of Carel Dake and Pieter Dupont.[1] She then studied in Paris at the Acad_mie Colarossi (1910-1911). After her return she lived in Oegstgeest. In 1913 she married Derk Meeles (1872-1958), twelve years her senior, who lived and worked as a painter in Laren. Van Groningen painted, watercolored and drew in an impressionistic style and made landscapes, still lifes and portraits. In 1968 Van Groningen moved in with a foster son in Bussum, where she died two years later at the age of 85.
