Marc CHAGALL (Vitebsk 1887 - 1985 Saint-Paul-de-Vence)
Marc Chagall, who was of Belarusian descent, was born Movsha Zacharovich Shagal in 1887. In 1910 he moved to Paris, and well before that he had already changed his name to Marc Chagall, which sounded more French. He was a very important painter. Much of his work falls under surrealism. However, it is not always possible to include it all under that current, as there were plenty of other influences to be found.
Marc Chagall's style is described by many as dreamy. His family has never been rich, but before that he had a happy life, which is reflected in his work. He used colors that fell under the modern style. Exodus, for example, is a well-known work by Marc Chagall. But also The White Crucifixion and The Marriage are well-known works.
