Schilders was educated at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven and the Academy for Visual Education in Tilburg.
He lives and works in Tilburg.
Mattie Schilders' work is characterized by sobriety, both in form and in colour. An important theme for him has long been the landscape. Subsequently, the human figure also became interested, and he started to depict shapes in nature. His many study trips have been of great influence, which he undertook to America, Italy, Egypt, Russia, Iceland, Morocco and Denmark, among other places. Mattie Schilders' work is included in various national, municipal, corporate and private collections.
