Nicolaas BEETS (Haarlem 1814 - Utrecht 1903)
Nicolaas Beets was a theologian, writer and poet. He studied theology at the University of Leiden and later became a minister in Heemstede and Utrecht. Beets wrote under the pseudonym "Hildebrand" and is best known for his work "Camera Obscura", a collection of stories and sketches that humorously portrays Dutch bourgeois life in the 19th century. In addition to his literary work, he was professor of church history at the University of Utrecht from 1874 to 1884.
