Paul HERRMANN (Munich 1864 - ?? 1946)
Grew up in Munich, where he received his artistic training at the Ebersberger School of Painting and at the School of Applied Arts. He initially worked as a restorer and fresco painter in southern Germany. In the early 1890s he worked as a panorama painter at the Chicago World's Fair and then as a portrait painter in New York and San Francisco. In 1895 he settled in Paris and worked for a satirical magazine under the name 'Henri Hernan'. He met Henri Toulouse-Lautrec and belonged to the circle of friends of Edvard Munch, August Strindberg and Oscar Wilde. In 1900 a separate exhibition was dedicated to him, where he showed etchings, lithographs and watercolors. In 1906 he moved to Berlin and made murals in luxury hotels, among other things. In Berlin he later created numerous works on paper and participated in many exhibitions. He was also involved in the so-called 'Great German art exhibitions' from 1937 to 1944.
