Peter Zuur (1957)
Peter Zuur, born in Leiden in 1957, etcher, painter, draftsman. Education: Peter Zuur studied 'Drawing and Painting' at the University of Delaware (USA) in 1978-1979. From 1980-1985 he studied at the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague). Place of work: Leiden. Peter Zuur often creates large works based on architecture, in which he explores the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract. His work is the result of a phased graphic process. Pinhole photos serve as a basis, the negatives are processed and these serve as a starting point for an etching or gum print. The prints are again processed with paint, ink and charcoal. Due to the phased working method, the image becomes increasingly detached from the original. This layered alienation contributes to the final, tranquil result.
