Pol BURY (Haine-Saint-Pierre 1922 - Paris 2005)
Painter, sculptor
Education: Pol Bury took drawing and decoration lessons at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen. Lived and worked in various places around the world, including Mons, Paris and Japan.
Pol Bury was an important factor in the Cobra group and in the Walloon surrealist movement. Pol Bury also made an important contribution to kinetic art, and his fountains were known as far as America and Japan. A beautiful fountain can also be admired in Brussels. René Margritte is one of the artists who were a source of inspiration for Pol Bury in terms of painting. From 1947 his paintings became somewhat more abstract, and the surrealist movement gave way to the group La Jeune Peinture Belge.
Since he did not find the spontaneous style of the Cobra group ideal, he left this group fairly quickly. Pol Bury made his first fountain in 1969 for the University of Iowa. The sculpture l'Octagon in San Francisco is one of Pol Bury's best-known work.
Belongs to the following movements/groups: Kinetic Art
Exhibition: 1994: Retrospektive, museum am Ostwall in Dortmund
