Poppe DAMAVE (Groningen 1921 – Bonn 1988)
Poppe Damave studied for five years at the Applied Arts School in Haarlem. In 1942 he studied for some time at the Academy of Maastricht, after which he worked for two years in the studio of Kees Verweij. After the Second World War, he was co-founder of De Groep, of which he was chairman for sixteen years. He was also a member of De Acht, Arti et Amicitiae and the Hollandse Aquarellisten Kring, among others. Damave mainly depicted subjects such as interiors, cityscapes and landscapes. He liked to travel, mainly by ship, and was inspired by his travels. He also illustrated several books. His style can be categorized as impressionistic due to the sometimes fleeting lines and soft colors.
In 1947 Damave exhibited in the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem with 'Haarlem Young Art'. This was followed by many exhibitions, including in 1958 in the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar and in 1961 a traveling exhibition in the US. His work can be found in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Singer Laren Museum, among others.
