Simon Gate (Skaraborg 1883 - Skaraborg 1945)
Initially Simon Gate studied painting, but he soon shifted his interest to glassware. In 1916 he was hired as artistic designer of the glassware department at Orrefors. The products he designed can be roughly divided into two different types. First, he designed simple, functional products whose traditional form was adapted to modernism. Second, he produced fine, engraved products inspired by the Baroque. Later he also produced undecorated glassware. From the 1930s his designs became simpler in form and he used less decoration. Geometric shapes were common at that time. Well-known designs of his hand are the Parispokalen (Paris Cup) from 1925 and Slottglass from 1923.
