Willem van Scheijndel lives and works in Leiden. He has painted a large oeuvre over the past 25 years and has developed a style all his own. The portraits of women that he paints very figuratively from a model are striking, with here and there a nod to Jugendstil. In addition, the women in landscape have become very well known. He paints these from his memories of the many countries he has visited. Especially in the eighties, Africa is central to his paintings.
Willem van Scheijndel's canvases travel widely, literally from here to Tokyo. His resume shows an impressive list of exhibitions throughout Europe, including the Louvre. And its resources never run dry. Willem van Scheijndel: "Being on the road, that is my inspiration. I experience that as a process of growth, a process without end. It is my personal ambition, when I am seventy, to make paintings that will leave you completely speechless."
