The Hague 1864-1941 Bloemendaal (Aerdenhout) The painter Willem J. Weissenbruch was born in 1864 in The Hague. Willem Weissenbruch, son and pupil of the Hague School painter HJ Weissenbruch, followed in his father's footsteps in terms of style and choice of subject. He painted landscapes with water and harbor and beach views, for which he gained inspiration in and around The Hague. He also lived for some time in De Kaag, Noorden, Nieuwkoop and Het Gooi. He also continued his education at the Academy in The Hague under the direction of Fridolin Becker. The work of WJ Weissenbruch is recognizable by the loose impressionist style that is so characteristic for him. He mainly painted wide landscapes, often with water. He also made harbor and beach views and a few still lifes. WJ Weissenbruch taught, among others, Jack Au_ and K. Heeman. Several museums have work by this painter in their collections.
