Amedee (also Amadeus) CORTIER (Ghent, 4 October 1921 - there, 11 February 1976) was a Belgian painter and graphic artist. In the 1940s he worked in the Expressionist style, in the 1950s Cubist and in the 1960s abstract. With his refined work from the late 1960s, he connects with international trends in which color is central.[1] His work of that period is generally regarded as fundamental art (?Planted? or ?Analytische Malerei? in Germany, ?Nouvelle Peinture? in France and ?Nuova Pittura? in Italy_); characteristic of this movement is the complete re-examination of the basic principles of painting (such as color). ), in Antwerp (Royal Museum of Fine Arts), etc. Cortier's works can be admired especially in the Groeninge Museum in Bruges. Several Dutch museums, such as the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, also possess work by Am_d_e Cortier.
