Corneille (Cornelis) van Leemputten (Werchter, January 25, 1841 - Schaerbeek, November 23, 1902) was a Belgian painter, specialized in depicting sheep and poultry, both indoors and outdoors. He was the older brother of the genre painter Frans van Leemputten. His cousin Jan Leopold Van Leemputten (1831-1925) also specialized in the same genre. He also received some lessons from his father Jan-Frans Van Leemputten (a farmer turned animal painter and who had also worked for some time as a restorer in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels.[1] He was in fact an autodidact who inspired by nature and the works of Anton Mauve, painter from the Hague School, and the French cattle painter Charles Jacque.He moved with his parents to Sint-Joost-ten-Node in 1852.
