Rotterdam 10 May 1902 - Heijen 1993Roovers studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, the _cole des Beaux Arts in Paris and the studio of _mile-Antoine Bourdelle, pupil of Auguste Rodin. He lived and worked in Mook (1936-1949) and Heyen (1949-1993). In 1948 he bought the ruins of the Heijen castle, a complex that was badly damaged in the Second World War, and restored it to the current Huys Heijen. He worked in bronze, stone, wood, ceramics, terracotta and plaster. He made 11 war memorials, fountains, religious art, decorations on public buildings and on the passenger ships of the Holland America Line, nudes and portraits. He received many commissions for religious statues and war monuments, especially in the south of the Netherlands.
