The Aesthetic Society's aim was to 'act in the interest of art, to arouse a sense of art and to promote the taste of art in general'. The Society was best known for the tableaux vivants they organized. These living statues were considered virtually unique in Europe and performed to great perfection. Eventually the number of members decreased. New developments in art did not show up well and arranging the tableaux was expensive, which led to savings.
