Founded in 1620 - dissolved in 1720
The Bentvueghels consisted of Dutch artists in Rome. This society was founded as a counterpart to the conservative Guilds of Saint Luke. They wanted to promote solidarity between the members, and therefore had a mainly social function. Artists from different disciplines were affiliated with the Bentvueghels. All members of the Bentvueghels also had a nickname, which was given to them during an initiation ritual.
