Der Blue Reiter

A new art movement emerged in Munich in 1911 among a small group of like-minded artists. The movement can be counted as expressionism, and together with Die Brücke it was even one of the most important movement within expressionism. The innovations of the individual members had a major influence on the international avant-garde. The members of Der Blaue Reiter were united by an ideology, namely an unshakable and passionate belief in the artist's unleashed creative freedom to express his personal vision, in whatever form he saw fit. They also all used a flat perspective, which led some artists to create abstract art.
