The Düsseldorfer Malerschule consisted of a group of men who studied or worked at the Königlich-Preußischen Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf between 1819 and 1918, or who worked in the vicinity of the Kunstakadmie. The number of members who have worked during this period is about 4000. The themes within this group were the genres of classicism, encompassing mythology, Christianity, historical themes and landscapes. The use of color in the works of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule is soft and even. The group was part of the German romantic tradition.
