Founded in 1959 - dissolved in 1965
In 1957 a new exhibition space was opened with an exhibition with work by young Frisian artists. The collaboration between artists in Friesland was now given a stage. From then until the 1960s, a group of young Frisian artists were invited every year to show their work. In this way one could see the development that took place within the visual arts in Friesland. This eventually came to be known as It Frysk Palette in 1959. However, the painters were not influenced by the developments in the rest of the country. Abstract art was not exhibited. They painted in a spectrum of free figuration and restrained expression. The artists of It Frysk Palette were therefore moderately modern.
