Geometric abstraction

On the eve of the First World War, a growing number of Dutch artists were involved in abstraction to a greater or lesser extent. This developed into the De Stijl movement in 1917. Geometric Abstraction is an abstract art form that uses geometric, geometric shapes, such as rectangles, squares, circles and triangles. This innovative art led to canvases and compositions with compound geometric shapes. After the Second World War, a new generation of Geometric Abstracts emerged. They formed a counter-image to the freedom that the lyrical abstracts allowed themselves. Geometric Abstraction has had a strong influence on architects and designers.
