Founded in 1922
Maatschappij Rembrandt, Society for art and art lovers, was founded because of the poor economic climate for artists that prevailed in the 1920s. Most of the members had been taught at the Amsterdam Academy. As the name suggests, Maatschappij Rembrandt is not only for artists, but also focuses on the public. The aim of the artists of the Rembrandt Society was therefore to bring art to the people. This was not only good for the people, but also for the artist who sells more this way.
