After the Second World War there was no association for visual artists in Zwolle. A mixed group of professional and amateur artists wanted to change that. That is why the 'Association of practitioners of visual arts Het Palet' was founded. The aim of the founders was to bring those who practiced the visual arts into contact with each other and also to be busy together on a fixed evening of the week. They also wanted to arouse public interest in the visual arts by organizing exhibitions, lectures and excursions. Characteristic for the members of Palet is that they are not only individually visually active, but also participate in joint activities.
