Founded in 1870 - dissolved in 1914
The School of Tervuren consisted of a group of painters who were located in Tervuren. The first generation of the School of Tervuren, like the School of Barbizon, is involved in landscape painting in the open air. There was no common program, the painters only shared the same desire. They wanted to break free from rigid academic views and immerse themselves in nature and manifest the freedom of the artist.
