-----------------------------
Ad Blok van der Velden (Dordrecht 1913 - Varese / San Remo 1980)

Blok van der Velden is considered the best-known Tessel painter, although he also worked on Terschelling and in France and Italy. Blok, as he was simply called, had received his education at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam.

In 1934 he came to Texel for the first time, where, as a nature person, he was captivated by the beauty and unspoilt nature of the landscape. In 1940 he settled permanently on the island. The unparceled landscape, the farms, the beach and the dunes were a constant source of inspiration for his colorful, impressionistic paintings. He captured the bright coastal light like no other.

Shortly before his death, Blok van der Velden moved to Italy, where he died in 1980 in Varese or San Remo. Blok van der Velden is buried on Texel.

When purchasing, a work of art can always be picked up, but by appointment, in Diemen (near Amsterdam, a few minutes from the A10 ring road). The collection period is very long; you can possibly pick up the work weeks or even months later and, if possible, combine it with a visit to (the) Amsterdam area for other matters. In that case you will, of course, save any shipping costs.
