A beautiful expressive work by the French artist Albert Bitran (1929 - 2018). He was born in Istanbul, but left for France to study. In Paris he was a student at the Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture for some time. However, Bitran soon realized that his passion lay with painting and not with architecture. Leaving his studies behind, he soon became part of a group of international artists who had all flocked to Paris for inspiration. This group included Ellsworth Kelly, Jesús Rafael Soto, Serge Poliakoff, among others. He also exhibited simultaneously with Cobra artists Doucet, Lindström and Corneille at Galerie Ariel in Paris. At the beginning of his career, Bitran only painted from a very geometric visual language. Afterwards, his handshake begins to change to the expressive and informal that we have come to expect from him. Over the years he will develop into one of the greatest representatives of Lyrical Abstraction.
His work enjoys enormous popularity in the Northern European countries and is included in a large number of important museum collections, including the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. He also exhibited several times in the Netherlands. From 1971, Amsterdam art dealer Martin de Boer was his representative. The work in question also bears a sticker from his gallery on the verso.
