Screen print entitled Mick Jagger by Andy Warhol from the 1975 portfolio of the same name. Published by Seabird Editions.
The work is not signed or numbered, but has copyright stamps from Seabird Editions on the back. A photo of this is attached to the back of the frame. These "printer proofs" were a reference for the actual printing, and were used for exhibitions and to promote the series. This screen print was issued in addition to the edition of 150 pieces.
The respective screen print offers a unique image of the rock star Mick Jagger. In this composition, Warhol places the emphasis on his eyes and not his famous lips, as we are used to. The color areas on his left eye ensure that the viewer is immediately grabbed. Jagger makes a very open and peaceful impression and Warhol's chosen use of color underlines that feeling even more. Warhol based this series on a number of Polaroids he shot of Jagger when the Stones visited the artist at his home in Montauk. Warhol often collaborated with the rock star, who previously asked him to design the album cover for Sticky Fingers (1971). Warhol was impressed by Jagger's rebellious character combined with a certain business acumen. The mix of commercialization and stardom, which is omnipresent in Warhol's oeuvre, made this a perfect collaboration.
