At an early age he learned to paint for houses and decorations, to style all kinds of plants, animal shapes and objects for decoration and advertising purposes. Supported by a number of fellow painters, including Jan Sierhuis, he followed his feeling, the path that he had in mind. Narrative elements are hidden in Anton Martineau's oeuvre. Newspapers, letters, shoes, everyday objects, just like love, eroticism and fear, form his themes. He starts his path from small ink drawings and continues his endless search that seems to have no end because, as he himself claims, the work is never finished! He says about his poems: A poem must be charged through and through. You bring forces together so that a tension is created. It must vibrate through your body down to the smallest fibers. He is also passionate as a painter and draughtsman. Quick sketches often precede work in paint. He throws nothing away during the creative process. Fortunately, because his drawings also fascinate and amaze. Like no other, he masters charcoal, pencil and chalk abstraction.
