Anton Vrede - Scary little monster - Sold

Anton Vrede works in an expressionistic, figurative, sometimes abstract style. In his work, animal figures often play a leading role, with the different figures having their own meaning and representing a naive fairytale world.


Animals are given human features and refer to exotic stories. His work consists of colorful drawings, all kinds of graphics, such as etchings and silkscreens, watercolors and paintings.

In his work, animals such as the gorilla, frog, hare, penguin, elephant, giraffe and/or leopard appear. The animals in his work are more than just a play of colour and shape, although that is played with dedication. Of all the animals, the elephant is the most strikingly present. Vrede says about this: "The elephant is a long-suffering animal, wise and tolerant. He was admired for his strength and was the beloved mount of heroes, kings and gods. I also often use the monkey. In ancient Egypt, he was treated with respect, just like in Eastern mythology. In that, he acts as the messenger of the gods, who carries out their orders even though he does not always understand them himself. He appears in my work as a kind of jester, who is allowed to do things that I cannot let another alter ego do".

The work is well framed.

Upon purchase, the work can be picked up in Stavoren (Friesland) or Amsterdam (Oostelijk Havengebied). Parking is no problem. The period for collection is generous after payment.
