20 Paintings is a sequel of the 24 paintings project.
Part two in a trilogy about value and authenticity within the arts.
For this work I made a series of paintings according to a self made manual.
A neurotic manmade machine reproducing a work process within the boundaries or givens of contemporary artistry. There are 20 paintings because there are 20 cigarettes in a pack.
For the exhibition, I priced the 20 canvases, based on my personal taste: the painting I found the ugliest was the cheapest and the most beautiful the most expensive, ranging from 50 to 1000 euro.
Of course the 50, 100 and 150 were sold in the first 5 minutes of the opening which proved my idea of the art world.
