According to the artist, Barry Ten-Thy: No frills , nothing, no extras. There is something very elementary about my painting, not something you understand with your head, but feel with your gut. It goes much further than just the composition or the hue, even though it is very variable and flexible. You have to go outside, experience life and heartbreak, only then can you come back to your studio. First you have to sit in the shit and understand how life works and then maybe you can come back and paint about it. That's the way painting is: it's not an intellectual experience. Of course you have to use your brain sometimes, but you actually 'catch' a moment, you freeze an emotion. When I'm painting and I realize I'm at the right pace, it feels like I'm taking off in a rocket. The feeling that my feet no longer touch the ground. To be free to depict what I see and feel, the psychologically moved, the expression of the inner, without hindrance of reason and principles The expression prevails and not the image. Working from memory is my method. A painting has to come from your body. It must be all about yourself.
