Oil painting by Ber Mengels (Heerlen May 6, 1921 - The Hague June 19, 1995 At a young age he started working in the Heerlen coal mine. He regularly attends drawing lessons at the Drawing School in Heerlen and follows written drawing lessons. In 1943 he went into hiding with a painter with whom he regularly painted in the open air.
