- Calvin Waller Burnett (van Afrikaans-Amerikaanse afkomst)werd in 1921 in Cambridge in Massachusetts geboren en overleed daar ook in 2007. In 1960 trouwde hij met Torrey Mulligan.

Hij volgde een kunstzinige opleiding aan het Massachusetts College of Art en behaalde daarnaast eem MFA aan de universiteit van Boston (1942).
Zelf doceerde hij gedurende 33 jaar aan het Massachusetts College of Arts.
Burnett was naast kunstschilder ook illustrator.
Werk van Burnett wordt in diverse musea en collecties gevonden (Dorothy Porter Wesley Research Center, Frederick R Weisman Art Museum, The Columbus Museum-Georgia, The Paul R. Jones Collection, DeCordova Museum). Daarnaast werd zijn werk onder andere tentoongesteld in het Smithsonian Institution en het Brooklyn Museum
