Het wapen van Indonesië wordt de Garuda Pancasila genoemd.
De Garoeda is
de gouden arend uit de Indonesische mythologie, het rijdier van
Visnu.
Hij
heeft 17 veren aan iedere vleugel, 8 aan de staart en 45 aan de
nek.
Dit
symboliseert 17 augustus 1945, de datum waarop de onafhankelijkheid
door Soekarno werd uitgeroepen.
Voor
zijn borst het wapen: op dit schild staan de vijf symbolen van de
Panca Sila. De kwartieren hebben de kleuren van de Indonesische
vlag.
Het
schild is in gebruik sinds 1
februari 1950.
Dit
zijn de vijf grondbeginselen waarop de Staat is gegrondvest.
